Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013 — and people loved it. As of 2022, more than 160 million copies have sold, accounting for more than half of all GTA title sales.
GTA got its start in 1997 when the first game was released. The game was impressive for its technological advances, but it faced some controversy for its content.
In 1998, PlayStation Magazine called the game “one of the most original, innovative, technically impressive and controversial PlayStation releases ever.”
Despite the controversy, GTA found a solid fanbase and kept growing. While the original was 2D and used an aerial view, later editions gave players more advanced environments that felt increasingly real.
By the time GTA 5 came out, the game was so popular that the newest edition earned $800 million on launch day. Three days later, the game had brought in a billion dollars, making it the fastest-selling entertainment product in history.
You can buy (and steal) a lot of stuff in GTA — including some crazy-expensive cars. Keep reading to learn more about the most expensive cars in GTA 5 online!
8. Benefactor BR8 (Formula One Car)
Class: Open Wheel
Capacity: 1
Type: Race car
The BR8 is based on two real Formula One race cars: the 2011 Red Bull RB7 and the 2009 Red Bull RB5. Game designers used elements of both real-life cars to develop the BR8, an Open Wheel racer released in the summer of 2020 as part of the Los Santos Summer Special update.
The update introduced 15 new vehicles altogether, including the $2.3 million Lampadati Tigon. The BR8 was the most expensive car of the bunch, coming in at a whopping $3.4 million. The cheapest was the Imponte Beater Dukes, which cost about $380,000.
The real cars this racer was based on are crazy-powerful. The 2011 Red Bull RB7 won 12 out of 19 races during its debut season and earned several record-breaking titles.
Did you know?
The Benefactor BR8 is impressively fast on its own, but the car is even more powerful thanks to KERS. This feature lets drivers boost the racer’s speed for four seconds. Recharge time is six seconds, but the extra distance might be worth it.
7. Progen PR4 (Formula One Car)
Class: Open Wheel
Capacity: 1
Type: Race car
Based on a real McLaren, the Progen PR4 Formula One race car is a speedy beast with a crazy price tag. The car was released in February 2020 as part of the Diamond Casino Heist update alongside a challenge to break into a vault and get revenge on the Duggan Crime Family.
In the real world, the McLaren MP4/5 was active from 1989 to 1990. With 16 Formula One championship wins in the bag, the car retired and was replaced by the MP4/6 for the 1991 season. Steve Nichols designed this car and Ayrton Senna drove it during its winning race at the 1989 San Marino Grand Prix.
In GTA 5, the PR4 race car can be purchased for a steep $3.5 million. Before it was for sale, players had the chance to win it by spinning the Lucky Wheel at the Diamond Casino & Resort.

6. Pegassi Toreador
Class: Sports Classics
Capacity: 4
Type: Customized civilian car
“No land? No problem.” The Pegassi Toreador is a customized civilian car that can transform into a submarine. The vehicle is sold by Warstock Cache & Carry, a business that might be illegally selling military gear. Things like tanks and helicopters are commonly in stock, but you can also find heavy-duty civilian vehicles.
The Toreador is one of many pricey items available at Warstock, costing $3.6 million. The company calls it a “submersible, booster-fitted sports car” and says “Nothing is as therapeutic…as the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean and firing off a few torpedoes at passersby.”
This car is based on a Lamborghini concept model, but the world’s first underwater car was the sQuba, which was announced around 2007. The vehicle transitions from road to underwater travel thanks to an electric motor and other tech that was groundbreaking for the time.
The car can dive 33 feet underwater, but it never made it to mass production. Rare examples of the unique vehicle are worth about $1 million.
Did you know?
As a convertible, sQuba drivers have to wear scuba-diving masks with oxygen tanks to drive the car underwater.
5. Grotti Vigilante
Class: Super
Capacity: 2
Type: Custom car

Equipped with rocket boosters, the Grotti Vigilante is a speed demon with a slick build and a steep price tag. The custom car came out in 2017 and costs a whopping $3.7 million — making it the fifth-most expensive car in GTA.
Like other cars in the GTA universe, the Grotti Vigilante is based on a real vehicle… sort of. Parts of the car took inspiration from the Batmobile designed for the 1989 film “Batman” starring Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight. Other parts were based on the Batmobile from the “Batman Begins” era.
Did you know?
Because of its built-in weapons, this car has been called “the ultimate instrument of vengeance.”
4. Coil Rocket Voltic
Class: Super
Capacity: 2
Type: Civilian car
Coil Rocket Voltic is a two-seater supercar with a massive rocket engine. The vehicle reportedly hits about 124 mph according to in-game testing by Broughy1322. The insane power that the engine provides is dangerous but impressive.
“There’s a very sound reason we don’t strap space shuttle parts onto sports cars,” says Warstock Cache & Carry, “But no one in the boardroom at Coil knew what that reason was, so here we are.”
Overall, this car is worth a jaw-dropping $3.8 million. That crazy high price tag isn’t set in stone though. At about $2.8 million, the SecuroServ trade price is a million dollars less than the standard.
Did you know?
This car has a custom roadster body style.
3. Declasse Scramjet
Class: Super
Capacity: 2
Type: Custom vehicle
Roadblocks are nothing when you’re in a Declasse Scramjet. The supercar has a powerful engine and the ability to “hop” over obstacles. As Warstock puts it, the “retro speedster [can jump] thirty feet into the air and turbo boost…into the side of the nearest high-rise.”
The Declasse Scramjet was first made available in the summer of 2018 with the release of the After Hours update. The same update brought nightclubs, which let players earn cash and expand their arsenal of power.
Like other cars, the Declasse Scramjet can be found on sale for a little less than the brand new price. Trade prices are about $3.4 million — significantly cheaper but still a ton of money.
Did you know?
The Declasse Scramjet has a max speed of 137 mph according to testing by Broughy1322.
2. Imponte Deluxo
Class: Sports Classics
Capacity: 2
Type: Civilian vehicle
Coming in at number two is the Imponte Deluxo, a staggeringly expensive Sports Classics civilian vehicle with a ton of power. The car can speed around at about 127 mph, but it also transforms into a flying machine.
Warstock says the useful design keeps you safe from sudden drop-offs, but it also turns the Imponte Deluxo into a versatile traveling machine. Add the fact that you can use this car for water travel and the $4.7 million price tag seems almost reasonable.
Beyond versatile travel options, the Imponte Deluxo has plenty of weaponry. Two machine guns are mounted and ready for front-facing battle while missiles easily destroy enemies in any direction. Overall, this car is a powerful and fast beast.
Did you know?
This car has a somewhat limited missile capacity of 30 units.
1. Imponte Ruiner 2000
Class: Muscle
Capacity: 2
Type: Civilian car
Imponte Ruiner 2000 is the most expensive car in GTA 5 online.
This powerful car comes equipped with machine guns, rocket launchers, parachutes, and the ability to jump. The crazy-powerful vehicle was released in December 2016 and Warstock priced it at a steep $5.7 million.
The SecuroServ trade price is a bit cheaper, but it’s still expensive at more than $4 million.
One of the biggest downfalls of this car is its limited rocket storage capacity of eight units. It’s also not super powerful compared to heavily armored vehicles, but it should do well in a lot of firefights.
Did you know?
This car can’t fly, but it does come with a parachute that slows dangerous falls.
